چکیده

alligator may be found in the southeastern United States, from North Carolina to Louisiana. The saltwater crocodile is found in Southeast Asia and Australia, with males reaching lengths of up to 23 feet (7 m). Victims of crocodilian attacks sustain trauma from a combination of penetrating, blunt, and sheer force. The saltwater crocodile can generate 2000 psi when it bites. The sheer magnitude of the jaw muscle force sustained with extensive penetrating injuries devitalizes large areas of tissue, thereby making such injuries slow to heal and susceptible to infection. Bites must be considered to be heavily contaminated with multiple bacteria, including Aeromonas hydrophila, Pseudomonas, and Proteus (Fig. 141.1).

Removing forest canopy cover restores a reptile assemblage.

Humans are rapidly altering natural systems, leading to changes in the distribution and abundance of species. However, so many changes are occurring simultaneously (e.g., climate change, habitat fragmentation) that it is difficult to determine the cause of population fluctuations from correlational studies. We used a manipulative field experiment to determine whether forest canopy cover directl...

Aeromonas hydrophila soft-tissue infection as a complication of snake bite: report of three cases.

Aeromonas hydrophila soft-tissue infection has been associated with fish and reptile bites. There have bee three recent cases from Brazil of abscesses complicating snake bites in which A. hydrophila was isolated from the purulent exudates. Phylogenetic Analysis of Bacterial Communities in Different Regions of the Gastrointestinal Tract of Agkistrodon piscivorus, the Cottonmouth Snake

Vertebrates are metagenomic organisms in that they are composed not only of their own genes but also those of their associated microbial cells. The majority of these associated microorganisms are found in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) and presumably assist in processes such as energy and nutrient acquisition. Few studies have investigated the associated gut bacterial communities of non-mamma...
